We get it. Murder mystery character packets come with a lot of materials. The descriptions, secrets, clues, and items are all essential for bringing the mystery to life and helping your guests fully immerse themselves in their roles. But keeping everything neat and organized can feel like a challenge. You want to ensure that everything is easy to access while preventing confusion during the game.

Over the years, we’ve experimented with various organization methods. Manila folders, paper clips, plastic bags… None of them quite did the trick. But after plenty of trial and error, we’ve finally discovered a system that works. Follow these simple steps to keep your character packets neat, tidy, and ready for action.

Step 1: Gather Materials
You’ll need a three-prong folder with pockets for each character and a stack of sticky notes.

Step 2: Punch and File
Use a three-hole punch to punch the entire character packet and place it inside the folder. This keeps everything in one place and organized.

Step 3: Secure Secrets and Clues
Turn to the page with the secrets, clues, and abilities for each character. Place a sticky note over each box that contains important information.

During the game, when a guest wants to share a secret, clue, or ability, they simply lift the sticky note to reveal the information and show it to another guest.

Step 4: Label the Folder
Write the character’s name on the front of the folder. This helps prevent guests from accidentally picking up someone else’s folder.

We don’t recommend cutting out the item pages ahead of time. Instead, keep scissors in the room so guests can cut out the items as needed during the game. They can then store the cut-out items in the pockets of the folder.
